The latest refrigerant r-1234yf is designed to significantly reduce the global warming potential of refrigerant gas compared to the current industry standard, r-134a. This is the main drive of adoption of this refrigerant, which has the advantage of using similar system material to r-134a system, whereas the eu proposal of co2 based refrigerant ac system would require a complete re think. For the record, co2 has a global warming material of 1  – in that the system use co2 taken from the atmosphere and if the leak simply  return into the atmosphere.
